No one really acts like they look forward to Valentine's Day anymore. If you're single, it’s the pink elephant in the room because you are sans date. (You were sans date last week too, is it that big of deal?) And if you're with someone, you either don't want to rub it in to your single friends that you have someone or you are stressed out wondering what to plan for the 'big day'.
I've heard so many people say that Valentine's Day is just another day. A Hallmarked holiday created to make us buy gifts, flowers and candy for our loved ones, when we really should be doing that all the time. So, what’s wrong with that?
People are missing the point that whether single or taken, celebration or not, since Valentine's Day IS considered a holiday why not take the opportunity to do something special? It doesn't have to be expensive, but a splurge, a little something to make an otherwise ordinary day extraordinary.
To be honest, I wish there was a Cupcake Day. A day celebrating the baking of cupcakes. Since there isn't, VD (that's probably not the best nickname, how about V-Day) is a perfect day to bake some for your favorite person. A box of cake mix is barely more than a dollar, add some frosting, sprinkles and voila a sweet, festive treat for you to share...or to keep for yourself.
Or, take a trip to 18th and McGee and visit Christopher Elbow's chocolate spot, where the chocolates look almost too good to eat. Almost. Pick from chocolate choices like Single Malt Scotch, where the name does not lie; it is a dark chocolate ganache infused with single malt scotch or take advantage of their chocolate Valentine Collection which literally is a box full of edible art.
Now that your sweet tooth has been fixed, you can relax. What better place to retreat then Massage Heights in Leawood. Valentine's Day doesn't have to serve as a relationship status reminder or be a cause of unnecessary stress. It should simply be another reason to celebrate the people you love and take the time to show some love to yourself as well. Plus, any day that includes any of the above mentioned sounds like a pretty LOVE-ly day to me.
